Valentine’s Cookie Decorating Party

Vivienne is seven!  Her birthday lined up with our February vacation week trip to Phoenix, so this year, we decided to throw her a party early and take advantage of Valentines Day with a cookie decorating theme party.

Hearts, sprinkles, and unlimited frosting… what more could a seven year old want?Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

This was our first time inviting her whole class to a party – something she was very serious about – so, we needed a lot of space.  The barn has a large, heated room on the main floor, so we set that up with twinkle lights and a long table down the middle for a cookie decorating station.

I made the cookies ahead using this excellent recipe for The Best Sugar Cookies that was pretty much fool-proof. The entire batch baked up perfectly, they held their shape, but retained a slight chewiness. Can’t recommend highly enough!

I mixed up a huge batch of buttercream and filled piping bags with pink, purple, and white icing to pass around the table.

They LOVED it.

Can I eat them now?!

We also played a few games, including “Pin the Lips on the Frog Prince” which Vivi couldn’t stop giggling about.

We needed a tie breaker – I don’t think we got them dizzy enough!

After presents, we had a cookie cake (they brought their decorated cookies home) and a dance party, and I think Vivi felt like her life was just about complete.

I used this Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake recipe.

Not every birthday needs a big party, but this was perfect for #7.
